MOT

MOT testing in Killingworth

The MOT is the yearly safety and emissions test most cars need. We check the areas below, explain anything that fails in plain English and quote any repair before we start. Send your registration and a preferred day and we will confirm what we can offer.

The test

Car MOT test, £40

This is the set MOT fee, and MOT fees do not carry VAT. Anything found during the test is quoted separately and only repaired with your agreement.

  • Class 4 MOT

The statutory MOT test for most cars and light vans, checking the roadworthiness and environmental requirements that apply at the time of the test.

    £40

MOT test fees do not attract VAT.

The inspection

What the test looks at

These are the areas the MOT covers. The key beside the drawing explains what each one means in practice.

What the test looks at

  1. LightsEvery lamp the test requires, including the ones you rarely use.
  2. VisibilityWipers, washers and the driver's view of the road.
  3. Steering and suspensionPlay, damage and the way the car steers and sits.
  4. Brakes and tyresCondition, security and braking performance.
  5. EmissionsWhether the car meets the limits that apply to it.
  6. Structure and bodyCorrosion, security and the parts the test depends on.
The test checks these areas against the standard in force on the day. Passing is not a statement that nothing will need attention before the next test.

An MOT is not a service

The MOT is a safety and emissions check on the day. It does not replace oil, filters or brake fluid, and passing does not mean nothing will need attention before next year.

What a service covers

New oils, filters and fluids as your car and its schedule require, plus written findings on condition. You can see the packages on the servicing page.

After a failure

We explain what failed, why it matters and what it costs to put right. You decide whether we go ahead. Retest rules come from the DVSA, not the garage: whether a partial retest is free depends on when the car comes back and what was repaired. We will explain what applies to your car.

What to expect

How an MOT enquiry works

We cannot promise a pass, and we do not confirm appointments automatically. Here is how it works.

  1. Step 01

    Tell us about your car

Call or send a message with your registration and what you have noticed. You do not need to work out the fault yourself.

  2. Step 02

Agree the price and the appointment

We confirm the total for your vehicle before the work is accepted, and agree a day that suits you.

  3. Step 03

    Receive the findings

You get a clear explanation of what we found and what it needs. Any additional work is only carried out with your agreement.
